Every year, as a Special Education teacher, one of our requirements is to send out an IEP at a glance. This beautiful little document lets the general education teacher’s know what is in each student’s individual IEP. It breaks it down by goals and objectives, specially designed instruction, and of course – the accommodations.
This document can sometimes be six pages long for one individual student. Multiply that by 40 students on one teachers case load and that is a lot of paper!
As a special education teacher, it is my job to make sure that my teachers know what each students’ goals, objectives, and accommodations are (this is where the IEPs at a Glance are handy)! However, a lot of my teachers also want something that they can have and look at quickly on a whim. This is where this handy tools comes in to play.
IEP Accommodations at a Glance
This Excel spreadsheet has a breakdown of majority of the accommodations offered in students’ IEPs. Since the school I am at utilizes teaming, I make each team a spreadsheet with all the students who have IEPs on their team. Teachers love it! Need to know who gets modified tests? Check the spreadsheet. Who has assignments/assessments read aloud? Check the spreadsheet. Some teachers keep this as a digital tool on their computer and others keep this tool on a clipboard and it is at their fingertips at all times.
IEP Goals at a Glance
Yet another Excel spreadsheet… I know. However, this is another break down of individual students’ IEP goals. Goals are broken down by the standard they address. I make each team a spread sheet with their students listed. I break these down even further by making one for English/Social Studies and one specifically for Math. Teacher also keep this tool on a clipboard so it is ready and at their fingertips at all times.
As a team it is our job to make sure accommodations are being made and goals are being met. These tools help everyone make sure all our students’ needs are being met!
You can find both in my TPT store which is linked above!
